Pilar loves all paddle craft and all types of water. And she is always excited to share her stoke.
Pilar grew up enjoying nature: hiking, backpacking, mountain climbing, skiing, rock climbing, horseback riding, fly fishing, windsurfing, swimming and exploring new places.
In 2000, she had an injury that caused a rare neurological condition. She refused to give up and kept fighting for a better tomorrow. With the help of several fantastic doctors, learning to walk again, and a supportive husband, she was able to get back to living life on her terms.
In late 2017, she took a SUP lesson and found a new passion. In 2018, she started enjoying some local paddle for a purpose races and has been hooked ever since. Paddling helped her shed 70 pounds in 16 months, gain better balance, and find a new bliss that's brought so many epic moments, awesome opportunities, and wonderful people into her life.
In August of 2018, she got her first SIC race board and named it Inspire. It inspired her to reach further and go after her new dreams. Soon after she & her husband moved near Newport Beach, California.
You'll usually find her on the water paddling in Cabrillo Beach at SUP with Wade, at Newport Aquatic Center, or somewhere off the Southern California coast. She lives for sharing the stoke of all paddle sports, coaching new SUP paddlers, volunteering as water safety for all abilities with multiple organizations (adaptive paddlers), and cleaning up local beaches and waterways. Pilar loves paddling with the local wildlife (dolphins & whales), and has a blast paddling and racing various crafts - SUPs, Outrigger Canoes, Surf skis &/ or whatever else she can get her hands on.
Pilar is a certified PSUPA Flat Water Level 1 & 2 Instructor, Camp, and an instructor Trainer.
